There is a relatively evolved and in depth discussion of the group art and practice of using wikis. A good starting point is the metawiki Community page. Spending some time looking at that community, then taking a look around at the way Wikipedia Getting Started is organized requires several hours at least. If you choose to do this, please -- don't do it all at once. Take your time, and keep posting here while you do it! -- come back and try everything you pick up before you move to next interesting thing you discover "out there". Post a note and a link to things that you thing others will find helpful. There's a lot out there, but little of it requires mastery before you can contribute here in a meaningful way.
